Acer Iconia Tab A 700 Vs. Microsoft Surface RT and PRO
Acer is a well known brand in the computer hardware and has a considerable market share in the laptop and notebook computer segments. Acer introduced its latest tablet PC Iconia Tab A 700 in the month of June 2012 and is one of the best designed tablet PCs in the market. This runs on the Android 4.0 operating system powered by Nvidia Tegra 3 1.3 GHz quad processor. The display of the Tablet is of the size of 10.1 inches and is capable of a resolution of 1920 X 1200 pixels at the rate of 224 pixels per inch that is comparable to 264 ppi of Apple iPad.
This tablet has more connectivity options with its built-in HDMI interface and is one of the select few tablets that come with this type of universal connectivity. The Iconia A 700 is having a lot of multimedia features with it support for Dolby Mobile 3+ technology with 5.1 surround sound. This comes with a powerful battery that can retain the live status of the tablet for over 6 hours. The tablet is provided with an internal storage of 32 GB. This is easy to hold and weighs only 1.5lbs or 0.68 kilograms.
Whereas the Microsoft Surface Tablets are introduced in two models the smaller Surface RT that runs on the Windows RT platform, and the more powerful Surface Pro that runs on the yet to be released Windows 8.0 operating system. The Surface Pro is a very powerful tablet when compared to the Acer Iconia Tab A 700 as it comes with a full fledged mobile computing processor from Intel and gives the power of a full fledged desktop PC in a handheld tablet PC. The display of the Surface is also of the size 10.6 inches with touch screen capability that comes with a special scratch proof glass surface. The screen comes with a 16:9 aspect ratio that is very nice for viewing HD movies.
The Surface comes with a very easy to use with 3 mm thick touch keyboard that comes as the cover to the Tablet PC. This cover/keyboard is attached with magnets so that it can be deployed very easily. The 0.7mm thick kickstand keeps your Surface upright when you are typing on the keyboard. These conveniences are absent in the Acer TA 700. The weight of both the tablets is almost equal with Surface weighing 1.5 pounds and is easy to hold and work with your hand. The Surface RT comes with 32 GB storage and the Surface PRO comes with both a 32 and 64 GB internal storage.
The connectivity with the Surface tablets are provided by a host of connectors including a full fledged USB 3.0 port that will definitely make the connectivity to your other gadgets easy and hassle free. But Microsoft has not spelt out correctly what type of wireless connectivity protocol the Surface will support except saying that the tablets will be Wi-fi friendly, whereas the Iconia is capable of supporting the latest HDMI interface.
Thus the Microsoft Surface and Acer Iconia Tab A 700 are neck to neck with their features and performance capabilities but only when the Surface comes to the market with its full specs we can have a conclusive comparison and arrive at a concrete decision in this regard.
